In early September, our very own Ladies of Darkness returned to the brewery to brew a couple of autumn stouts. This time, they were joined by some visiting members of No Half Measures Collective – a group of female beer enthusiasts from Nottingham.

A gloriously sunny day, with shared lunch, cake and discussion wrapped around a double brew day. There was even a blessing for the beer, and a visit from the Brewhorse!
Keep your eyes on our socials for details of the launch of the results – an Imperial Custard Stout and a Parkin Stout – designed to be drunk individually or mixed. What could possibly go wrong.
We also hear that Tom’s Tap is rapidly gaining a wider reputation for supporting original live music. This month we have a packed schedule of live acts including Seregade, Oli Ng, Codename Colin, George Gadd and Mexican Dave plus Ed Poole and Sally Pepper.
Kyla Bavin (Birmingham City University) will be giving a Tom’s Talk about the influence of social media from a criminology perspective; and last but not least, we are celebrating Halloween with a Rocky Horror Show themed fancy dress party. Spooky!
For lovers of cocktails, from the 3rd October, following the success of Jacqui’s cocktail afternoons in the Green Room, we’ll have a permanent cocktail menu of five delicious (and strong) cocktails as well as an extended wine collection and even more single malts.
More good news! The Ladies of Darkness stouts we brewed in September have been packaged and should be ready by the start of October. Double Yellow Lines (8.4%) is an Imperial Custard Stout, and Parkin Ticket (5%) is a ginger and treacle themed stout. We’ve also got the latest release of Barley Wine on the taps. This was brewed back in February and then aged for six months in a bourbon barrel before being kegged at the beginning of September.
Look out this month for Hillbilly Engineering, a single hopped pale ale with Amarillo. We’ll also be brewing a Hopfenweisse (hoppy wheat beer) with Audacia and Strata from Indie Hops in Portland, Oregon. That’ll likely be ready at the back end of October.
